South Australian Casting
The Agency was the first official actors’ agency in South Australia. It was established in 1975 by Ann Peters and by casting, representation and training it has been part of the fabric and history of the Australian film and television industry.
The idea for the agency came about during discussions in the dressing room with Noni Hazlehurst, Tracy Mann and Ann Peters. In 1973 they were performing in the Festival Theatre’s production of Winnie the Pooh.
As Ann was known and respected for her leading roles within the local theatre companies she was often asked for her suggestions for actors for various television commercials. Therefore, an agency seemed a good idea. The South Australian Film Corporation was about to open its doors, there wasn’t a local casting director and South Australian actors at that time had no representation.
From the onset, South Australian Casting has been involved with almost all film and television produced in South Australia, with an established presence interstate, all beginning with Picnic at Hanging Rock.
